A Fresh Start on Three Levels: 8723 Winding River Way in Northeast Raleigh’s Thornton Square
Hi, I'm 8723 Winding River Way, and I've Been Getting Ready for You
Oh, good. You made it. Come in, come in. Don't mind me, I'm still a little giddy about the new floors.
I'm a three-level townhome in Thornton Square, a friendly little pocket of Northeast Raleigh with sidewalks out front, a community pool down the way, and neighbors who wave. I've had a big season. Fresh paint from the front hall all the way up to the top bedroom. Brand-new floors on every level, and not a scrap of carpet anywhere. Brand-new appliances in the kitchen. And out back, a brand-new deck is on the way, so somebody new gets to be the very first to enjoy it.
I'm not saying I've been waiting for you specifically. I'm just saying I've been practicing my first impression, and I think it's going well.
Let's Start on the Ground Floor
My front door opens into a bright tiled foyer, the kind of entry that forgives muddy shoes and dripping umbrellas without holding a grudge. The staircase gets a little dramatic with its dark treads and crisp white risers, but I think a house is allowed one statement piece by the door.
Follow the hallway back and you'll find my favorite secret: a whole extra room on this level, with its own half bath and sliding doors that lead outside. It doesn't have a job yet, and honestly, that's the fun part. Home office with a door that actually closes. Movie room. Art studio. Guest room for the cousin who says "just a couple of nights." Workout space you will absolutely use, starting Monday. It's ready for whatever you decide, and it won't mind if you change your mind next year.
Laundry lives down here too, tucked into a closet with a washer and dryer, so laundry day stays on one floor instead of turning into a cardio routine.
And the garage? It opens right into the house. Rainy evening, eight grocery bags, one trip from the car to the kitchen without the weather getting a vote. You're welcome. There's a driveway spot out front too, plus guest parking in the community for when friends come by.
Up One Flight, This Is Where Life Happens
The middle level is my living, cooking, and gathering floor, and I designed it so nobody gets left out of the conversation. The living room sits up front by the windows with a ceiling fan for summer afternoons. It flows straight back into the kitchen and dining area, so whoever is stirring the pot can still weigh in on what everyone's watching.
Now, about my kitchen. Everything in here is brand new and gleaming: stainless steel appliances, including a gas range for the people who like to cook with a real flame. White cabinets with warm brass pulls. Dark countertops that make everything look a little more polished than it might really be. A center island where homework, mail, snacks, and life stories tend to pile up in the best way. And hanging over it all, a crystal chandelier.
There's a pantry for the cereal collection, plenty of counter space for the people who bake when they're stressed, and a dining area with a chandelier of its own. It sits right beside sliding glass doors that lead out to where the new deck is going.
Speaking of That Deck
It isn't built yet, but it's on the way, and it will be brand new, which means you could be the very first to set a coffee mug on it. Picture slow Saturday mornings with nowhere to be. A grill going while the sun drops. A friend who stops by for one quick drink and stays two hours because the evening is just that nice. I can't make the weather perfect, but I can give you a really good spot to enjoy it when it is.
Top Floor, Lights Down Low
When the day is done, head up to my third level, where all three bedrooms wait together. Each one has a ceiling fan and good light, and the secondary bedrooms have roomy double-door closets for everything you swear you'll sort through someday.
The primary suite is my quiet corner. Two windows let in the morning, there's a walk-in closet, and the bathroom has a double vanity, so nobody has to wait their turn to brush their teeth. There's a glass-enclosed shower for busy mornings and a soaking tub for the evenings that call for bubbles, a good book, and a closed door. Whatever happened at work today can wait downstairs. It isn't invited up here.
The Neighborhood I Call Home
Thornton Square sits in Northeast Raleigh, where neighborhood streets meet easy connections. Triangle Town Center and the Capital Boulevard corridor are close by for groceries, dinner plans, a new pair of shoes you didn't need, and errands you did. US-1 and I-540 are nearby too, which makes it easy to head into downtown Raleigh, up toward Wake Forest, or anywhere else across the Triangle. And when you've had enough of being out there, I'll be right here with the porch light on.
